I'm a working mom raising three school-aged kids, so navigating big personalities, competing priorities, and busy schedules is part of everyday life. For the past two decades, I've built a career in nonprofit executive leadership, helping women make sense of complex health information and turn it into clear, practical steps they can take to protect their health.
Like so many families in Spartanburg, my husband and I have felt the squeeze of rising costs. We've paid as much as $2,800 a month for childcare and we've had our share of months where balancing the family budget meant making difficult choices. Those experiences have grounded me in the realities facing working families and strengthened my belief that South Carolina needs practical, accountable leadership that understands everyday life—not just from talking about it, but from living it.
Why Irene is Running
I'm running because Spartanburg families deserve a representative who answers to them—not to party leaders, special interests, or political agendas. As a mom of three young children, I want the same things most parents want: safe communities, excellent schools, affordable healthcare, and the opportunity to build a good life right here at home.
I believe our elected officials should put families first. That means protecting kids online, investing in strong public schools, standing up to powerful interests when developments like data centers threaten our community, and making responsible decisions with taxpayer dollars instead of handing out unnecessary tax breaks.
No parent should have to choose between filling up the gas tank and buying groceries or paying for their child's healthcare. I'll bring practical, accountable leadership to Columbia and work every day to make sure Spartanburg's voice is heard and its families come first.
Irene’s Priorities
Healthcare that works for everyone.
South Carolinians pay federal taxes just like everyone else, yet our state has refused to bring back funding that could strengthen healthcare in our communities. That decision has contributed to rural hospital closures and left too many people without access to affordable care. I'll work to secure those funds, protect our rural hospitals, and make sure every family has access to quality, affordable healthcare close to home. This includes fighting for women to have control over their reproductive health.
Keeping our community together.
We go to church together, our kids attend the same school, and we stand side-by-side at parades, birthdays, and school plays. Our community shouldn’t be divided for political gain. I oppose mid-cycle redistricting that would divide our east side neighborhoods into separate congressional districts, weakening our community's voice in Columbia and Washington. Our families deserve fair representation that keeps our community together.
Keeping our kids safe.
Our children's well-being should always come before the profits of Big Tech. I'll fight to keep phones out of classrooms and protect kids from social media addiction, harmful uses of AI, and online predators.
AI and Datacenters
Communities should have a say whether a datacenter is in their backyard or not. I oppose datacenter development without community involvement and oppose tax breaks for datacenter developers.
